About the Artist

Seeing in Fabric is the sewn fabric artwork of self-taught textile artist, Jamie Langhoff. She has been evolving her own, unique style of fabric applique artwork for the last decade. She has a BA in Philosophy with a minor in Art. She has a background in painting, but became drawn to the fiber arts on her own terms.

She is inspired by the juxtaposition of natural and artificial elements in the urban landscape. The main "characters" in her work--telephone poles, street lights, birds, antennas, lights in windows--are not human, but still speak to the human experience of seeking connection and wanting to be seen.

Jamie lives in Washington, DC and loves the smallness and aesthetic of the city, especially the early 20th century architecture of the row houses. When she is not working in her home studio, she can be found zipping around town on her bicycle, volunteering with several non-profits for at-risk kids, playing with power tools, taking long walks at sunset, and drinking bourbon.
